Columbia Basin Culture Tour features Golden arts Guild – Golden Star

The Golden Visual Arts Guild is on the map for the Columbia Basin Culture Tour, taking place at artists’ studios, museums, art galleries, and heritage sites during a free self-guided event.

The Golden Visual Arts Guild is a small group of artists who gather weekly at the Golden Seniors’ Centre. They mentor and critique each other, hold local art displays, bring together professional artists for workshops, and also participate in fundraising for non-profit organizations.

During the tour, they will be demonstrating painting and drawing for visitors.

The Culture Tour, which takes place August 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., invites people from all over the Columbia Basin to get out and travel around to see what local artists are creating.

The event provides an opportunity to travel to studios and archives that aren’t typically open, take in demonstrations, new exhibitions, collections, and meet people behind the scenes.

Participating in the tour is as simple as grabbing a map and getting out there.

After checking out the Golden Visual Arts Guild, hit the road down south to Invermere, home of the Purcell Mountain Painters and Juanita Rose Violini.

The Purcell Mountain Painters have a gallery and studio space open for anyone to experience their work in all art media.

Violini is new to the tour this year, and has a venue available for people to see her visual art and chat with her about her work as an author and illustrator.

The Columbia Basin Culture Tour spans from Revelstoke to Golden, as far south as Creston, east to Fernie, west to Rossland and Nakusp, and everywhere in between.

There are nearly 60 arts and culture venues participating in the event, and a map is available on the website.

Registration for artists who would like to participate is now closed for the 2019 tour, but the Columbia Basin Culture Tour will be accepting applications for studios and venues for the 2020 tour in February, 2020. Artists can e-mail wkracprojects@telus.net and ask to be put on the “CBCT call for entry” e-mail list to receive an update of when applications will be available.

The Columbia Basin Culture Tour aims to promote artists and increase public awareness of the quality and diversity of art created in the Columbia Basin, and promotes local heritage resources and increases awareness and involvement in Columbia Basin culture.

The tour also helps assist artists in marketing their work, and helps to create new relationships between artists, heritage workers, and the community, furthering diversity of cultural activities.
